Rosa Parks had to overcome her fear when she stood up for what she thought was right. Overcoming fear is often a stepping stone to great accomplishments. |
This lesson looks at FEAR:
Being immobilized by fear is one of the most common reasons why people DO NOT move forward with their passion or business even though they REALLY want to. What's important for us is to help you move forward, not by ignoring your fear, but by addressing it at it's source - in your head!
False Evidence Appearing Real
We're scared of the unknown - situations we are not familiar with. It's a good idea to be cautious when you are on unfamiliar turf, but we need to face fear if we ever want to accomplish new things. Starting a business evokes strong emotions, and as we've seen in the previous lesson, emotions come from beliefs based on
observation that are not always accurate.
Question.
You remember about limiting beliefs?

Carly Simon was one of the most popular of the confessional singer/songwriters who emerged in the early '70s.
|
|
"I was born with an interestingly different brain, and as a consequence, I had many emotional problems growing up. I shuttered and stammered. I had phobias and tics and all sorts of interesting habits. I was chronically nervous.
By the time I was in fourth grade I was so disabled by my fears that I would hide under my bed and actually become sick.
I remember once sitting at the dinner table and literally unable to speak the words, "pass the butter".
"Puh...puh...puh," I tried again and again, ultimately collapsing in failure when I couldn't get the words out.
So my mother said, "Sing it". And even though it was embarrassing to break into song in front of my family, I did just that, completing the sentence in one try.
| That single incidence proved to me that even if I couldn't speak, I could always sing.
|

|
My mother gave me the most valuable advice of all that year. "If you can start thinking about other people rather than yourself all the time, you may begin to loose your self-consciousness."
Question.
If you shifted your thoughts from your fear to how other's feel, would that help?

Dealing With FEAR

We're all afraid of business and personal events or imaginations from time to time. 2004 for Daniel and I was filled with expanding MOMtrepreneurs, running Intelligent Netware, launching The Angelina Show, winning two Small Business Administration awards,
qualifying for Donald Trump's Apprentice III and beginning the recovery from an auto accident while dealing with a settlement case. You can see I'm familiar with business challenges.
On the personal side, being from another country, escaping domestic abuse and a bad marriage, living in a shelter with my two children and being the first woman in the Washington Work-First program to go into technology. You can see I also know about over-coming personal fears.
